We do the Daily 5 each day. They are choices we make to practice reading. The 5 choices are: Read to Self, Read to a Friend, Listening, Word Work, and Work on Writing. In Daily 5 you have to concentrate and focus on your work.
In Read to Self you need to stay in one spot. In Read to Self you need to be quiet. We read about mice, characters, Indians, cats, vegetables and fruits, and elephants. Read to Self makes us good readers.

We Met a Magician
The Magician's name was Bruce Amato. The Magician was awesome! He was nice.
It was kinda funny when he moved the house, and a bunny appeared! The magician was funny when he picked up the bunny.
I liked when he got the scarves to make a butterfly scarf.
It was really funny when he made the face sing "Who Let The Dogs Out".
The house was white and then it turned colorful.
It was fun.
We think he is awesome so come to our website!

Horse Show Field Trip
We saw a lot of horses. One horse was getting a bath. Horses have a lot of fun. We even got to pet a horse!
We saw a water fountain. A lot of people were at the fountain.
We saw horses practicing. We saw the owners training the horses.
I liked the statue of a horse head.
We got to see people riding the horses. One person won a ribbon and a trophy.
We got to eat a donut. It was delicious!

Hello,
We are in the first grade at Eastside Elementary School. We will be writing about what we learn in first grade on this blog. Our blog is called the Penguin Pen because our teacher, Mrs. Person, calls us her penguins. We will try to write on our blog once every week. Come back soon and read about what we've learned.
Thanks,
The Penguins
